Background to LOT
LOT is a collaborative group consisting of artists and curators. LOT
is located in a building in the heart of Broadmead on the corner of
Penn Street and Broadweir.
The old Poundstretcher building
has been provided by The Bristol Alliance, represented by Hartnell Taylor
Cook estate agents as the host venue for a series of projects taking
place over the next year.
LOT the building is approximately 2500sq ft over three floors of prime
retail space. It will house two floors of exhibition spaces with excellent
natural light as well as space suitable for controlled lighting conditions.
On the top floor LOT has plans for some production space for selected
artists on a residency basis (Adam Dade & Sonya Hanney will be the
first to use these spaces), office and kitchen space and a reading room
/ library of art publications.
LOT is an opportunity to
draw together a number of people based in Bristol and develop a series
of contemporary art projects.
Working as an independent
group with links to all the major art institutions in the city as well
as broad spectrum of National and International contacts, LOT aims to
develop a series of exhibitions, events and commissions over the period
of one year.
By forming a collective LOT
pools experience knowledge and contacts, placing itself deliberately
between institutions, providing a professional yet informal arena in
which to make new work and show the work of peers.
